That's the '6-string' banjo! It's a guitar neck, guitar tuning, on a banjo body, with banjo sound. A great shortcut to actually learning the sucker... :)

Yeah, I don't have any kind of amp, I just do everything direct. It kind of bothers me, though I can't rally afford one and don't even have the room for an amp, because what if someone wants me to go 'jam'? :(

Yeah, I use Musician's Friend a lot myself, music stores are highly bogus ... and really, they always have been. At least you can find what you're looking for at MF. I've seen those Randall amps: very nice, indeed! I wouldn't mind one myself, or one of those ridiculously loud Line 6 digital amps, or both...

While putting together my last set of demos, my old headphones broke, so I got a pair of these fancy Sony MDR 7506's... and it's like hearing in 4D. It should improve the sound on future demos once I get used to them. That's the last thing I got, I think... :D

yeah, i grew up at the shore (before there was 20 mob wife and drunken guido reality shows) and there were only 2 music srores around for 20 miles... i would go to the shop, plug in the pedals and try out shit then go home and buy it for half the price through the catalog... cash COD back in the day, lol....

That's the way to go... I want to check out this Manny guy. :D

Another cool thing is many items are cheaper than they used to be, even though money is worth less, too. Strings, for example.
